On Mindful Purchasing

Being on Instagram sharing bits from our everyday means I’m often sharing products I buy & use. And then of-course there are the occasional brand partnerships as well (I don’t do too many but still).

I’ve said this in my stories & want to put it out here too because I’m very conscious of how my online spaces come across. I don’t want it to ever feel like I’m constantly telling you to buy or make you feel like what you own isn’t enough. I’m very conscious about how I shop and what comes into our home would always encourage everyone who drops by on my corners of the internet to do the same.

I wanted to share some tips/suggestions because I wasn’t always like this.

(more on this journey here)

some ideas to help become a more mindful purchaser

  1. Avoid window shopping. Yes, this includes virtual window shopping. If you find yourself being tempted, it is best to unsubscribe from those emails.
  2. Avoid impulse purchases. This is related to the previous one but it helps to see to sleep on it & see if you still think you want to make a certain purchase.
  3. Keep a list of things you need. Notes app is perfect ; I use Google Keep.
  4. Buy fewer but better quality things. This makes it possible to invest more in one item as well.
  5. Question how many of any particular item you actually need. Eg: Bags, Sneakers, Boots, Jacket.
  6. Save things you love & want but don’t maybe need to a wish list (I have a wish list on Pinterest, Amazon, and on Instagram) so you can use a special occasion to purchase these.
  7. Whenever possible, try to purchase local, non-toxic, eco-friendly & ethical options.

Do you already do any of these or have another tip to share?

What’s your relationship like with shopping?
